The reason for the season…
Does the commercialism
of the Christmas season get you down? You’re thinking, “There’s got to be a way to make the holidays
more meaningful.” Well, there is!
The Alternative Gift Market is a
perfect place to get into the real spirit of the season and to find gifts that
honor special people on your gift list while also helping people in the world
who aren’t on anyone’s gift list. You can give them life-giving gifts
that make both you and the person you are honoring feel good about making a
difference in the world. The friends we know who have received such a
gift have been very grateful.
Are you frustrated about finding
the perfect gift for someone who has everything? Imagine giving the gift
of health care for mothers and infants to a relative who is a nurse or
protecting ecosystems to your boss, who loves nature.
At the Market, project marketers
will display exhibits of their causes and answer questions about them.
Shoppers will mark on their shopping lists which projects they wish to
support. After a stop at the cashier’s table to pay for their choices,
they will select Christmas cards with descriptions of their gifts.
At the Heifer International booth, you may want to purchase shares of
livestock to help impoverished people become more self-reliant. Bees or
chicks are a really good gift for children to give or receive because they
start to learn the value of helping other people.
SERRV
is a fair trade organization that markets handicrafts from artisans in Africa,
Asia, and Latin America. A selection of these
items will be available at the market for those who would like to buy a
tangible item and also help others.
Jesus is the reason for the
season. Honor Him with a gift of love for His children who are in need.
