Soup Kitchen A Success
On
Saturday October 29th, Volunteers from CPC helped serve meals to the needy at St. Mary's
Cathedral in Trenton. The event was sponsored by Loaves & Fishes.
Our Church had close to 30 volunteers there.
The 800 servings consisted of meatloaf, mashed potatoes & gravy, corn and
buttered rolls. We also served Grape, Orange and Fruit Drink,
along with Coffee. The dessert plate for each person included 5
different desserts, including brownies and cookies.
When
we arrived at 10:15 am, due to the inclement weather (unprecedented
snowstorm), the Church already had 150 people in the Cafeteria waiting
for the main meal at 11:30 am. We served up bagels, rolls, coffee and
drinks until it was time for the main meal. At 11:30 am, we started
serving the 1st shift of approx 250 to 300 people. After each received
their full courses, we served seconds and plates 'To Go' for those that
wanted more. At 12:30 pm we started serving the 2nd shift (new group)
of approx 100 to 150 people.
In
general, this was a very moving experience for all of us. To see needy
adults and small children, relieved just to have a warm place to stay
if for only a few hours and a fine meal for their hungry bellies, really
touched our spirits. Needless to say, this adds a whole new perspective
of Gratitude for all of us.
For me, I must first say how
proud I was of our congregation. We really are a self-less, giving
group that shows up when we are needed!! It's very inspiring to be a
part of this group.
Peace & Blessings,
John Moreno (Education)
