Lent Starts Next Week

I started following a cartoon website recently - http://xkcd.com
– this is number 731. I found it
terribly funny and also applicable to our upcoming season of Lent. Yep – Lent starts next week with Ash
Wednesday on February 22. Our service of
Han-Pu-Ri and Ashes is at 7:30pm. Please
join us!
But how does Lent relate to the cartoon? I'll answer that with another question...
What if we experience life like that guy on the island? What if we think nothing is happening because
we can't see it happening? What if
there's bunches of stuff happening beneath the surface of our lives... where we
can't see it?
My hope for Lent is that we dive a little deeper in our
spiritual lives. In order to do that,
we're providing two things: a daily
Lenten prayer journal entitled "Creating a Life with God” and a weekly
discussion group on Wednesday evenings.
The prayer journal rotates through five different ways of praying
(silence, reading, walking, questioning, and coloring). And on Wednesday evenings we can informally
talk about how those prayer practices are going (what's working and what's not
working).
We all pray in our own way and most of the time we do things
that work for us (or else we'd probably stop doing it.) But I'll ask again, what if there's bunches
of stuff happening beneath the surface of our lives? Trying out a new prayer practice often allows
us to see something that we couldn't see beforehand. Make sure you pick up a prayer journal Sunday
and join us as we dive deeper!
